So far this weekend I've found out that a close friend needs major brain surgery, my grandma's had a stroke and my grandad's had a heart attack (this is actually comfortingly routine - he's had eight and the family are starting to see it less as an illness and more as a particularly reckless hobby, like skydiving or bear wrestling).
